Television Schedule for 2013 USGA Championships

The United States Golf Association, in conjunction with its television partners NBC Sports, ESPN and Golf Channel, today announced the broadcast schedule for the 2013 USGA championship season. In all, 65 hours of live coverage will air from the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, including 35 hours of live coverage of the 113th U.S. Open Championship from Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

In addition to the three Open championships, NBC and Golf Channel will provide television coverage of the U.S. Amateur Championship, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship and the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, as well as the Walker Cup Match.

“The USGA’s Open and amateur championships are among the most prestigious events in all of competitive golf,” said USGA Executive Director Mike Davis. “Through our partnerships with NBC, ESPN and Golf Channel, we are able to deliver these events to fans across the country and around the world. With ground-breaking technology, those at home will be able to experience the championships as if they are walking with the crowds at Merion, Sebonack and our other world-class venues.”

NBC and ESPN will combine to air 35 hours of live 2013 U.S. Open coverage, up from 32 hours in 2012. ESPN will air the first two rounds (June 13-14) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT, followed by coverage on NBC from 3-5 p.m. EDT. First- and second-round coverage will return to ESPN from 5-7 p.m. EDT. NBC will provide coverage of the third and fourth rounds (June 15-16) from noon to 7:30 p.m. EDT.

If necessary, a playoff will be contested on Monday, June 17, starting at noon EDT. ESPN will cover the first two hours and NBC will provide coverage through the playoff’s completion.

The first two rounds of the 68th U.S. Women’s Open at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., will be televised on ESPN2 from 3-7 p.m. EDT on June 27-28. NBC will air the third and fourth rounds (June 29-30), from 3-6 p.m. EDT, with a 30-minute pre-round program at 2:30 p.m. EDT on each day.

The first and second rounds of the 34th U.S. Senior Open from Omaha (Neb.) Country Club will air on ESPN2 on July 11-12 from 4-8 p.m. EDT. NBC Sports will broadcast the third and fourth rounds (July 13-14), from 3-6 p.m. EDT, preceded each day by a 30-minute pre-round program at 2:30 p.m. EDT.

NBC and Golf Channel will jointly cover the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Golf Channel will air the first round of match play on Aug. 14 from 4-6 p.m. EDT, followed by second-round coverage on Aug. 15 from noon to 2 p.m. EDT and the quarterfinal round on Aug. 16 from 9-11 p.m. EDT. NBC will air the semifinal matches (Aug. 17) and the championship match (Aug. 18) from 4-6 p.m. EDT. 

Coverage of the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina will air on Golf Channel, beginning with the first round of match play on Aug. 7 from 3-5 p.m. EDT. The broadcast will continue Aug. 8-11 from 4-6 p.m. EDT each day, with coverage of the third round through the championship match.

Golf Channel will also provide coverage of the 66th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship from Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif., and the 44th Walker Cup Match from National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y. Junior Amateur quarterfinal coverage will air July 26 from 1-3 p.m. EDT, followed by the championship match on July 27 from 4-6 p.m. EDT. Coverage of the Walker Cup Match is scheduled for Sept. 7-8 from 4-6 p.m. EDT.
